Tour Description
Experience Disko Island’s glacier, the enormous icebergs, and playful whales in Disko Bay, as well as the thunderous calving of the Eqi Glacier further north. On this journey, you will encounter all forms of ice.
Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island is, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful places in Greenland. Here, you’ll find stunning lava landscapes with vibrant green mosses.
The trip continues to Glacier Lodge Eqi, a unique and hard-to-reach destination (often sold out) in Greenland. This cabin community faces the calving glacier Eqip Sermia—just 80 km and 3–5 hours by boat north of Ilulissat. We have ensured that cabins are available for you.
In Ilulissat, you will stay at Hotel Icefiord, located directly on the UNESCO-protected icefjord, which is guaranteed to captivate you—hence the hotel’s name.

Departure from Ilulissat to Qeqertarsuaq. A fast Targa boat will take you across Disko Bay, and just two hours later, you’ll arrive in Qeqertarsuaq. Here, you’ll be accommodated at Hotel Disko Island. In our opinion, Qeqertarsuaq is one of the most beautiful places in Greenland. It’s hard to describe—it’s a feeling. It’s simply stunning here. There are other beautiful places in Greenland, but in Qeqertarsuaq, it’s in a special and almost surreal way. In addition, the people in the town are incredibly kind and welcoming.
Qeqertarsuaq means “big island” and is about the size of Zealand. There is only this one town and a small settlement (Kangerluk). The rest is a landscape that is both gentle and wild, and truly impressively beautiful.

Activity on day 3 (suggestion)
VHike to Kuannit or the Black Beach
Disko Island offers a landscape that is completely different from what you experience on mainland Greenland. The island was formed by volcanic activity. Basalt mountains, black sand beaches, and green vegetation are typical of the area. Just behind the town of Qeqertarsuaq, the high basalt mountains rise up—about 1,000 meters tall and topped with glaciers.
If you enjoy winter bathing, we offer a visit to the sauna on the black beach near Qeqertarsuaq. Here, you can warm up after a dip in Disko Bay among the icebergs. The sauna is beautifully situated with views over Disko Bay.

Included Hotel
Hotel Disko Island
In the heart of Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island lies Hotel Disko Island, where you can experience the island’s dramatic basalt mountains, unique flora, and authentic Greenlandic culture. Day 4: Ilulissat (UNESCO)
After a couple of days in what we consider paradise, the journey continues to the capital of icebergs, Ilulissat. It’s wonderful here as well, but in a different way. Upon arrival in Ilulissat, you will be picked up by the Hotel Icefiord bus and taken to your hotel. In 2004, Ilulissat Icefjord was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The icefjord is one of the first areas in the Arctic to receive this recognition. Although the area is protected, special permits allow for boat trips among the icebergs and helicopter tours. There are many exciting dining options in town. Whether you’re in the mood for a burger, Thai food, or a delicious three-course meal, you’ll find it in Ilulissat. The hotels also offer their own specialties, so if you don’t feel like going far, you can choose to dine at the hotel restaurant.

When is the best time to travel?
This journey is best suited for the summer months—June, July, and August—when Greenland reveals its most vibrant and colorful side. It is the high season for sailing, the midnight sun, and adventures among icebergs and whales.
In June, Disko Bay begins to awaken. The snow has melted, the midnight sun shines around the clock, and the whales arrive. It’s an ideal time to experience the Arctic light that never fades—casting a warm, golden glow over the icebergs, mountains, and sea.
July is midsummer in Greenland. Temperatures usually range between 5 and 15°C, and everything is in full bloom. The green landscape of Disko Island stands in beautiful contrast to the drifting icebergs in the bay. This is also the perfect time for hiking—the trails around Qeqertarsuaq and Ilulissat are both accessible and breathtaking. The icebergs are enormous, the glaciers are active, and nature is full of life.
In August, a calm settles over the area, and the changing light of late summer makes the days softer and richer in color. It is still possible to see whales, and both Disko Island and the Eqi Glacier remain fully accessible by boat. Temperatures stay mild, and you’ll experience the best of Greenland’s summer atmosphere—with a few less travelers.
Summer is the only time of year when it’s possible to visit Glacier Lodge Eqi, which can only be reached by boat. Staying there is a unique experience, where you fall asleep with a view of a calving glacier. This journey combines the raw Arctic with comfortable accommodations and plenty of opportunities to get close to nature, culture, and local life.
Practical info

It is possible to charge digital camera batteries at the hotels (with your own charger). However, access to electricity cannot be provided during your stay at Glacier Lodge Eqi, as electricity is only produced for short periods during the day by a generator. Currency and Credit Cards
Credit Cards can be used at almost all hotels, restaurants, and shops. However, we recommend bringing some cash (DKK) as a backup.
NOTE
Please note that the price of the trip is a starting price, as there may be additional charges for a more expensive flight ticket type or a different cabin/room standard, depending on availability at the time of booking.
