Icefjord cruise with local captain and guide
Today you will experience the beautiful fjord system behind Nuuk on a sailing trip all the way to Nuuk's icefjord. The trip into the icefjord takes approx. 2 hours, and along the way we will keep an eye out for eagles, seals and the giants of the sea, the impressive whales.
When we arrive at the icefjord and the sculptural icebergs, we will switch off the boat's engines so that we drift quietly among the icebergs, see the many shapes and colors up close and listen to the crackling and melting ice.
The trip is a total of approx. 6 hours and there is the option of staying inside as well as outside on the boat. Hot drinks are served along the way.

Activity on Day 4 (Included)
Fishing trip and cruise to a restaurant in abandoned settlement
Today offers a very special fishing trip.
We sail far into the fjord to an abandoned settlement that now houses a cozy restaurant. Although it is one of the most remote restaurants in the world, the food is formidable, and our hosts use the best ingredients and grow their own vegetables.
On the way there, we fish, and when you hand your catch to the chef, you can watch as he fillets the fresh fish and transforms it into the most delicious meal for you. It doesn’t get any fresher than that.
The trip is a total of approx. 6 hours, and if you prefer not to eat fish, you can also choose something else from the menu, incl. vegetarian dishes.

Season and practical info
Greenland is a truly unique destination—magnificent, but not always easy to visit. That’s part of its charm. Our travel advisors are happy to help you tailor a journey that matches your wishes and interests. As part of our service, we will also guide you on the best time to plan your trip, ensuring you return home with the best possible experiences.

When is the best time to travel?
This journey is best enjoyed in the summer months—June, July, and August—when Nuuk, Greenland’s capital on the west coast, comes alive with color and activity. During this time, you can look forward to memorable experiences like Icefjord sailing, fishing, and city walks under the long Arctic days.
June is when Nuuk truly wakes up after winter. The last ice melts from the fjords and lakes, and the sun stays up all day and night. The air is fresh and dry, and even a day with 10–15°C feels pleasantly warm. The landscape fills with wildflowers and plants making the most of the short summer. Huge schools of ammasatter (capelin) swim along the coast, attracting seals, whales, and people. Humpback whales often come close to the city, making Icefjord sailing and whale watching especially exciting. City walks are full of energy as everyone enjoys the endless daylight.
July is the height of summer, with temperatures often reaching 11°C or more on sunny days. The weather can change quickly, so it’s good to be ready for fog or cooler spells. The sea is usually free of ice, but big icebergs drift in from the glaciers. This is a great time for fishing in the fjords, with plenty of Arctic char and cod. City walks are lively, with cultural events and outdoor gatherings taking place in the long, bright evenings.
August brings the first signs of the end of summer, as the midnight sun disappears and nights slowly return. Sunrises and sunsets last for hours, painting the sky with beautiful colors. Temperatures drop a little, but it’s still mild—just bring an extra sweater. Humpback whales are still in the fjords, now feeding on krill and shrimp. Icefjord sailing is still a highlight, and there are fewer visitors, making the city feel calmer. City walks in August are peaceful, with Nuuk’s colors deepening as the season changes.
Nuuk’s Arctic climate is tough but fascinating, and the weather is always part of the adventure. Summer is the best time to enjoy everything the city has to offer—sailing among icebergs, fishing in clear waters, or exploring the lively streets and local culture. This journey gives you the chance to experience both the wild nature and the everyday life of Greenland’s unique capital.
