Restaurants in the Diskobay ↓
1. Restaurant Icefiord, Ilulissat
At Restaurant Icefiord, you dine with views of the Ilulissat Icefjord. Through the large windows, icebergs drift slowly through the bay while the light over the fjord changes throughout the day.
The restaurant's Signature Menu changes with the seasons. Depending on the time of year, the menu may include mattak, lumpfish roe, Greenland halibut or reindeer.
When the weather allows, many guests choose to dine on the terrace, where lunch is served. A popular choice is the open-faced sandwiches, like grilled musk ox with beetroot, pickled cabbage and crowberries.
2. Restaurant Disko Island, Qeqertarsuaq
On the Disko Island (Qeqertarsuaq), snow crab is part of everyday life. Fishing plays an important role in the community, and during the season, the large crabs also make their way onto many tables at Hotel Disko Island.
The crab meat is delicate and mild, and the meal often takes a little longer than usual. Guests crack the shell themselves and work their way to the meat inside. It is rarely a meal you finish with perfectly clean hands, but that is part of the experience.
3. Hotel Diskobay Restaurant, Qasigiannguit
In Qasigiannguit, the restaurant at Hotel Diskobay serves as a natural gathering place where locals and visitors share both the dining room and the view. The atmosphere is informal, making it easy to unwind after a day of activities.
The kitchen collaborates with local fishermen and hunters who supply fish, shellfish and game. From both the restaurant and terrace, guests enjoy views of the Diskobay.
A whale bell hangs on the terrace. Whenever someone spots a whale, tradition calls for them to ring the bell so that everyone can enjoy the view.

4. Café Asimut, Ilulissat
Located along Ilulissat’s Yellow Trail, Café Asimut is a popular stop for hikers, as it provides a welcome break on the path between the Icefjord Centre and town.
Here, you can warm up with a cup of coffee or tea while taking in the surrounding landscape. The menu also includes open-faced sandwiches and other simple dishes well suited to a day outdoors.

5. Igaliku Bygdehotel, South Greenland
A small kitchen garden next to the hotel provides herbs and vegetables for the kitchen, including rhubarb and seernaq. During summer, berries and mushrooms grow throughout the landscape, and some of them find their way onto the menu.
Many guests spend their days hiking in the area before returning for a shared dinner.
6. Brasserie H.Q. Qaqortoq
Located at Hotel Qaqortoq in South Greenland, Brasserie H.Q. is a popular place to take a break during the day. The café serves barista coffee alongside cakes and pastries baked in-house.
The menu also includes a wide range of dishes, from salads, sandwiches and pasta to pizzas and steaks. There is usually plenty to choose from.

7. Qooqqut Nuan
Around 50 km from Nuuk, Qooqqut Nuan is located in the former settlement of Qooqqut, surrounded by mountains and the waters of Nuuk Fjord.
One of the ways to visit is on the Fish & Eat tour where you try your hand at fishing along the way. If you're lucky enough to catch something, the kitchen can prepare your fish and serve it as part of your meal.

What they all share is their close connection to nature. From the dining room, you can enjoy views of icebergs, fjords or mountains, while many of the ingredients come from the surrounding areas. The kitchens work closely with local fishermen and hunters, and the menus change with the seasons. This gives guests the chance to taste ingredients that have formed part of Greenlandic cuisine for generations.

Do you tip in Greenland?
Tipping is not customary in Greenland. Restaurants, cafés, hotels and tour operators generally include service as part of the price, and there is no expectation that guests leave an additional tip.
Vegetarian or Vegan?
Greenlandic cuisine is largely based on ingredients from the sea and mountains. For this reason, vegetarian and vegan dishes are not always listed on restaurant menus.
However, most restaurants are happy to accommodate dietary preferences if notified in advance. This allows the kitchen to prepare a meal based on available ingredients while taking your wishes into account.
