December - travel to Greenland

December is very special in Greenland. Winter darkness engulfs towns and countryside. The short dusk for a few hours in the middle of the day makes you appreciate all kinds of light, such as the Christmas decorations and poinsettias decorating homes and businesses, and the Northern Lights glittering in the sky. Although Greenlandic cities, towns and settlements have small populations, the enthusiasm shown by locals as they celebrate with fireworks and parties on New Year’s Eve, matches that of much bigger cities around the world. New Year in Greenland is not only celebrated at midnight local time, but also 4 hours earlier as a special greeting to the Danish part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
